Travel through time and discover the magic of Chichen Itza and Uxmal, two of the most important archaeological pre-Hispanic cities in the Mayan world
Travel back in time and discover the magic of Chichen Itza and Uxmal, two of the most important archaeological pre-Hispanic cities in the Mayan world. You will travel in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle and will be accompanied by an expert bilingual guide during the Yucatan Overview semi private tour.
We will depart from Cancun or the Riviera Maya and travel to the Pre-Hispanic city of Chichen Itza, one of the main capitals and cultural sites of the Mayan culture.
Your guide will explain the historical significance of all of the most important temples of this ancient city during the semi-private tour before leaving you to enjoy Chichen Itza at your leisure. Admire the Pyramid of Kukulcan, the Temple of the Warriors, the Ball Court, the Observatory, the Nunnery and beautifully conserved smaller temples in the vicinity. Feel free to take lots of pictures! Upon walking back to the Mayaland Resort, take time to enjoy the pools and facilities, meant to compliment your Chichen Itza Experience in a unique way. Complimentary buffet lunch at the Mayaland Hotel.
From Chichen Itza we travel west to Uxmal, considered to be the most beautiful and spectacular site of the ancient Mayan culture. It is built in the ornate Puuc architectural style (Puuc is the Mayan name given to a series of low-lying hills related to a unique culture and architecture). The check-in will be performed at the beautiful Hotel Hacienda Uxmal, which is within walking distance of the site. It is a favorite of distinguished personalities and royalty as Queen Elizabeth and Indira Gandhi, among others.
At night, a feast for your eyes and ears awaits you at the light and sound show. The Nunnery Quadrangle will serve as the venue, and as you sit under the stars you'll listen to the stories and legends related to the rise and fall of Uxmal. During the stories, see the temples and pyramids of the ancient city gradually revealed in all their glory.
After the show, you will enjoy a delicious dinner served at the Lodge at Uxmal before you turn in for the night. Sleep in an absolutely peaceful atmosphere under the night of the Maya.
The second adventure-filled day starts off with a delicious breakfast while you enjoy the beautiful vegetation and whistles of colorful birds by the tropical premises of the hotel. After that, you will be conducted by our guide to explore the pre-Hispanic city of Uxmal in a small-group tour. Set among rolling hills, this site is filled with mystery. The Governor's Palace, the Pyramid of the Soothsayer and the Nun’s Quadrangle are just a few of the buildings that will capture your attention for their beauty and décor.
After visiting Uxmal, we set off for Merida, stopping at the Yaxcopoil Hacienda on the way that dates back to the 17th century. The Hacienda represents the history of three great periods in the Yucatan and the booming years of henequen cultivation during the late 19th and early 20th century. The building is now a museum showcasing sisal manufacture, once the Yucatan's principal industry.
Upon arrival in Merida we will take a sightseeing city tour that will point out important sites of interest. Merida was founded in 1542 on the site of a Mayan city called T'ho - it is delightful. Its bustling center boasts colonial churches and mansions as well as Paseo de Montejo. This tree-lined avenue is famous for its beautiful French-style residences, as it was built at the turn of the century when the henequen industry was at its peak.
You'll have plenty of time to explore the city center, browse the shops and craft markets and try the traditional Yucatan cuisine during lunch.
In the mid-afternoon we will depart for Cancun or Riviera Maya and will proceed to drop you off at your hotel so that you can relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation.
